ODS Executive Director, Sarah Albus, Wins AACPDM’s 2022 Duncan Wyeth Award

Open Door Sports’s (ODS) Executive Director, Sarah Albus, has been selected as the 2022 recipient of the American Academy for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine’s (AACPDM) Duncan Wyeth Award.This annual award recognizes an individual who demonstrates outstanding participation in, or promotion of, sports and recreation, and serves as a role model for people with disabilities. Ms. Albus was selected out of a group of nominees by the Academy’s Adapted Sports and Recreation Committee for her exemplary advocacy and promotion of inclusive and adaptive sports and recreation activities for teens and young adults with mobility challenges. Albus said, “I am truly honored to be this year’s recipient of the Duncan Wyeth Award.I feel very lucky to do the work I do, and to receive an award named after such an extraordinary individual is something I will always treasure.”

This award was named after Duncan Wyeth, an accomplished athlete, Paralympian and disability advocate for his passion towards life and for encouraging people with disabilities of all ages to pursue interests and dreams and not to be limited by their disability.This is a philosophy Sarah Albus shares and helps guide ODS in the operation of its programs. Ms. Albus will receive the award at the AACPDM’s 76^th Annual Meeting in Las Vegas, NV,September 21-24, 2022.

The AACPDM is a multidisciplinary scientific organization made up of physicians, allied health professionals and researchers whose mission is devoted to the study of cerebral palsy and other childhood onset disabilities primarily by promoting professional education here and around the world. Their overarching goal is to improve the quality of life for children with these disabilities by educating the people who serve them.
