On Saturday, May 18th, the day after National Pizza Party Day, North Italia in Tysons generously hosted Open Door Sports for an incredible morning in their beautiful restaurant. They had three adapted, child-friendly, and fun segments that the children rotated through. One segment consisted of a comprehensive tour of the restaurant that included how the restaurant uses the tablet for reservations and food orders – allowing the children to input sample orders; the bar area which has inclusive seating for wheelchairs; the kitchen’s preparation, cooking and to-go assembly areas; and the dining tables. Another segment allowed the children to play pizza-oriented activities such as pin the pepperoni on the pizza. The final segment was a pizza-making station where the children spooned the marinara sauce, sprinkled the cheese and added, in whatever amounts they wanted, whichever toppings were of interest – mushrooms, olives, peppers, pepperoni, and onions to name a few. Fortunately, they didn’t need to wait long for the finished product as the pizzas baked in 4 minutes.
Everyone was treated to cold drinks, the parents were all offered cappuccinos and all left with a gift bag of pasta, marinara sauce and a wooden spoon to make their own pasta at home. The event was abundantly staffed by North Italia’s phenomenal, enthusiastic employees. Parent, Murty Sadhanala, was delighted, indicating that “My child had multiple opportunities to try his culinary skills. This was his first time trying something like this. Not only did he get to make and eat his pizza at North Italia, but he also got to make the delicious pasta at home. Everything was perfectly packed for his needs and it was so easy for him to make. We are very grateful to North Italia General Manager, Brandon Baker, Chef Vidal and all the staff for the wonderful experience our child had.”
Baker and Liz Covey, the Restaurant Management Team for North Italia, Tysons shared that “Open Door Sports warmed our hearts with their positive embrace and happy spirits as they had an adventure in our North Italia. It made our morning hosting their interactive pizza making class everlasting with sweet memories. We look forward to seeing them all very soon for their next activities day!! “
