Hannah Albus, an Open Door Sports (ODS) player who has Cerebral Palsy, was granted a dream wish with George Washington University (GWU) athletics through nonprofit partner, Dream On 3. Beyond being an ODS player, Hannah is also the daughter of Executive Director and Founder, Sarah Albus. The sports dream was coordinated through a Dream On 3 Collegiate Dream Team, in this case GW Seniors and Dream Captains, Timothy Nichols and Kelly Poole, college students from GWU, who took the lead planning the weekend, working jointly with Abby Cortes, Dream Leader. Nichols and Poole hosted fundraising events, built a relationship with Hannah and were central in the execution of the Dream Experience.
The first surprise for Hannah was being greeted at her home by dear friends, Anderson Jones, Tripp Phillips – both previous Dream on 3 sports dream recipients – and Skylar Welch with a banner as well as Nichols, Poole and 10 other GWU Collegiate Dream Team members. She was whisked away with her parents and sister, Grace, with their first stop being a GWU merchandise shopping spree, followed by a sushi dinner – Hannah’s favorite – at Toryumon.
On Saturday, Hannah joined the Women’s soccer team while they watched the tape of the other team to help inform their game and then joined in on the team’s soccer practice, kicking around the ball. Her busy morning continued with a locker room tour before heading to a picnic at Potomac Park with Dream Team members from GWU’s baseball, gymnastics, cross country and soccer teams. Dinner that night was at Sequoia at Washington Harbor followed by the funny murder mystery, Clue, based on the classic Hasbro board game.
After breakfast at the Smith Center, it was time for the highlight of the weekend, the Dream Experience Soccer game. Hannah was the honorary captain and was announced as she joyously ran to the middle of the field and welcomed both teams.
This is the fifth wish granted through Open Door Sports’ partnership with Dream on 3 and ODS remains extremely appreciative to Dream on 3 and their Collegiate Dream Teams making James’s, Anderson’s, Tripp’s, Jay’s and Hannah’s wishes a reality.
